Is standup paddleboarding difficult?

No. Compared to many other athletic pursuits, it is relatively easy to learn. If you are reasonably fit, and if you have even average balance, you’ll be great. Even if you think you are uncoordinated or clumsy, you can still do it. We select appropriate equipment for best results for all of our guests.

Is SUP dangerous?

Relative to other outdoor sports, not very. At its essence, it’s standing and paddling. If you feel like you are losing your balance, it is easy to crouch and re-stabilize. If you fall, you fall into clean, refreshing water, and try again. If you get tried, take a break. There’s no pressure to over-exert yourself.

Do you provide all the equipment?

Yes, we provide all the paddling equipment; standup paddleboards, paddles, PFDs (personal flotation device) and other safety items. We also provide hydration.

What do I need to bring?

For paddling, you should bring swimwear, sun protection (including a hat, sunglasses, sunblock), and clothes that are comfortable for an outdoor and water environment. Pack some sneakers, a beach towel, and any other small items you might bring on vacation; iPod, books or magazines, etc. We will send you a complete packing list after you register.

Do I need to be a good swimmer?

We recommend that you have at least basic swimming skills and be comfortable in the water. You should be able to tread water for two minutes and swim a short distance. All paddlers will be equipped with an inflatable, Coast Guard approved PFD to wear around their waist. *Other safety equipment is provided as well.

What are your age limits?

We will accept guests as young as 12 years old, so make it a family adventure! Guests under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. How old is too old? That’s up to you, but we hope you’ll join us, no matter how many years of adventures you’re already had.

What sort of weather should I expect?

The sun shines on Lake Tahoe 274 days a year; that’s 75% of the time. In September, expect air temperatures to be nice and warm, around 75º. Expect surface water temperature to be between 65º and 70º, perfect for cooling off after a paddle.

Where do I fly into?

The best rates will be found by flying to Reno//Tahoe International Airport (RNO). Round trip ground transportation is included in your package. You can also fly into the Truckee/Tahoe Airport, which is only minutes from the hotel. We’ll be there to pick you up!

What is there to do in Truckee/Lake Tahoe besides paddling?

Truckee, California is one of the Sierra’s true mountain towns, and there are more fun things to do than there are hours in a day. In addition to all manner of outdoor activities, downtown Truckee offers historical sites and tours, shopping and a diverse variety of drinking and dining establishments and live entertainment. Need to relax? We’ll schedule you a massage with one of the best therapists in town. Feeling lucky? Nevada state line and iconic casinos are only a short drive away. Need a ride to any of the above places? Hop in our shuttle and we’ll drop you off and pick you up.
